ELP Products in EV Charging Stations

With the drive of electrification, EVs have increased in significant numbers and EV charging stations are steadily growing around the world. Where charging stations are in open space without cover, there are potential risks during wet weather. This is because when water gets into certain parts of the charging station, it may cause leakage current when the charger is being used. If the charger is protected by (the correct DC rated) RCBO, leakage current will trip the RCBO, disabling the charger.

If it is not protected by the correct RCBO, users may experience an electric shock or electrocution.

By installing ELP eLynX power modules at the EV charger (and the EV), the EV charger will maintain safe operation, by limiting the level of leakage current to safe levels. Note that ELP eLynX power modules can handle both AC and DC leakage at the same time. As a result, the EV charger will continue to operate safely despite the wet weather. This allows installation of EV chargers in open space without the requirement for overhead cover.
